you do realize that you're not supporting the artist by buying music off of a download site? Usually artists get a VERY VERY small percent, like under 10. Which means these big companies are taking 90% of the money and shoving it into thier own pockets.

I say, download your music illegally, and if you want to support the artist, send them $1 for every song, or $13 for the cd or whatever.

I'm not against giving money to the artists, i think they deserve it, its the RIAA thats hogging all the money, and who i hate.

Yeah, they do deserve around 60-70% of the cut. 90% is a bit high because of manufacturing costs, distribution, advertisements, i'd say it'd cost around 25-30% of the total gross income to cover those for the larger artists.

I support them by downloading their music off of the internet and then referring other people to buy them.

What? I'm doing my part. Eat me.

most of the music i get is on cd because the music i want to download isnt on any of the file sharing things, so i'm forced to buy it, which i have to do online since no stores around here sell any good, real punk.

I download - if I like most of the CD i'll go buy it - problem is it's hard to find a lot of the music I listen to around here :-\ If I only like a couple of songs, i'm not buyin' their album.

as for manufacturing costs, those prices are like, non-existant to the artist
