so why listen to "emo" music?

You said it for yourself:

Music should be from the soul, and if so it is a reflection of the band itself.

What to you may be mere immaturity and lack of understanding of love, may be to others, emo musicians, a form of expression to reemphasize their feeling towards a person. Emo music is a reflection on the band itself. They create the music because they believe in a common purpose, not because they simply want you to hate them even more.
The generalization you are making is obviously not true. Are all emo songs meant to target low-self esteem, angered teenagers? I think not.

These people only look at the downside, the bad parts of life, so they make "emo" songs.

I honestly think you have something against emo people in general instead of the music genre. Do you think I am cry in a corner and only pay attention to the harsh aspects of life? Thats a fairly big accusation aimed at people you hardly even know. I don't think you are able to make that statement. I could just as call you and everyone on this site and introvert because you browse an online art forum. Does that say for everyone? Far from it. So for you to aim your opinion that all individuals who listen to emo music are "people who feel so poorly about life are ignorant to the joys in life" clearly indicates you lack of tolerance of emo people and culture. I don't think this has to do anything with music to you.
Personally, this is not where I wanted this thread to go. Instead of bashing all members in a class (emo genre), I was looking for what distinguishes well-performed artists from inexperienced ones. A variance in sound quality? Originality? Crowd activity during concerts? Drum solos at the end of the song? Group membership? A group aimed to promote a common purpose? The list could go on. You did the direct opposite.
