Re: the departed

hey, here's an idea:

instead of watching the departed, go watch taxi driver. seriously, this book basically influenced/created the character of rorscach for the comic Watchmen (for all three of you who read it, this means something to you), and is also just one of the best damn movies of all time. Fuck it, one of the top 5 movies of all time. Yeah, I said it. Now go watch it.

Re: the departed

oh and bit, Ishmael was pretty disappointing. it's like the guy stole philosophies from Schopenhauer / Kierkegard / Kant and put it in a way so that children could read it.

EDIT- especially that part about the laws of life and how we should live, some exact lines were from Kant's Critique of Pure Reason

Re: the departed

meh, you might actually be right. But then again, you were always smarter than me at philosophy. I recommended that book like, what, almost a year ago? We were both a lot less educated back then. But I totally think you would have liked it a lot more if you had read it back then, or going into ninth grade, like I was; not as the german-loving stuff you know today.

But, what'd you think about the Adam and Eve story, at least? I thought that was at least very unique. It was the thing that basically got me thinking of religion in a different way, considering I had been raised to be a catholic schoolgirl all my life previous.

Oh, and btw, realize I am not pretending to know who all those people you mentioned are. I know the stuff you taught me, but that was a while ago, back when you were into the more "mainstream" stuff like C.J. Jung and Neitszche (sp?) and stuff. So yeah, thanks for the recommendations.

www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_Kant -- he's like the Beatles of philosophy

www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kierkegard

www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schopenhauer -- you'd probably like him the most

My parents said this was the biggest problem with the movie: punk music... -_-

Then again, those fucking bastards were like, "OMFG WHU IS DAT GUY THAT JHUST SHOT HIM LOLZ?" in the LAST FUCKING 20 SECONDS OF THE FILM, RUINING IT FOR ME BY FUCKING TALKING> SOME BITCHEES NEED TO SHUT THEIR MAOUTHS.

Anyways, good movie. I still loved Taxi Driver better, but that might just be because of the fact that it's a "classic". The Departed was still fucking fast-paced and smrt though.

EDIT: I was thinking that Matt Damon's role in Good Will Hunting mighta played a part into Matt Damon being so good at his Irish shtck. And that Scorcese totally was influenced by taratino's Mexican Standoff. But that might just be me.
