    OFFLINE work in progress

    Hi Guys,

I would like to share to you a piece I am about to start painting. However because of my occasional laziness I can't

start to paint if I am not encourage enough. So I hope to get encouragement from you guys around here. This is an entry

piece I am going to submit for a digital painting contest and I just have 2 weeks to finish this. OK, here's the sketch

first in few hours I will put up the basic color. The sketch is unfinished though.

I need to get a back story so I can understand more what I want to do.The story is that in the future robots are

becoming more human, their programming and artificial intelligence have evolved to cope with humanity and their vanity,

while humans on the other hand are becoming more and more reliant on the technology that most most population of the

earth are in many ways integrated to the technology, however robots are still considered a synthetic being not capable of

human emotion. Offline is tragic story about two beings that has blurred the distinction between being human and being a

robot in the near future and how they struggle be accepted.

    Cheers!

I'm a little bit confused about what is that arm in the bottom left doing; does the robot have two arms, one dangling and the other holding the girl?

It's a really great rough draft though, I can't wait to see the end result.

Hmm very interesting. Actually this prediction of the future seems plausible, as we all move to a more connected existence.

I like it, looking forward to the some progress screens!

@bit, the robot has several sets of arms (like that guy from mortal conbat) oh, and it looks like a good start. I would try making the canvas a little bit bigger, and make a small scene for the background. I think if you do this, then you will have a better chance describing your idea.

    Hi Luz,

The sketch is basically a draft so anything here are just for placement and the rest will change while I paint it. The canvas area will be bigger also to convey a little bit of what is out there. Will upload my progress this weekend.

It's not the same story, but I think you would like Feed, by Anderson. It's a young adult sci-fi novel, but it's pretty sexy.

    Hi Guys!

Here's the WIP of the painting, putting the colors first. I will work out the proper lighting later for now I just want to get things prepared. I am still looking for nice lady model for the painting.

Here's my latest update. I go along the flow of the painting and constantly revise it until I am satisfied. Here's the general picture without details yet.

I actually liked the colors of the second "step", the contrast of the blue vs brown. Possibly change the bikini to a blue hue, in the end product...

It's a good colouring job, can't wait to see how it ends out.

Yes, you are right. The color has to have meaning to this painting, the brown represent earth meaning that the robot is becoming more part of nature rather than artificial and the lady will be wearing blue that may mean cold and lonely which is becoming part of the modern society. For now I am putting dress on her.

OK, here's my recent update. I've change a lot from the last WIP. Painted a blue dress and add few more details. I am happy with the over-all sketch so I am going to continue in this direction which is more closer to my pencil drawing. Any advice is welcome!

    Cheers!

    Re: OFFLINE work in progress

I like the original sketch better. Just my opinion, but I like the idea of the girl being younger. I would actually love to see the girl much younger than pictured. It's easier for me to sympathize with the care for a child than the loss of adult I knew nothing about. Not to mention it would show they have the ability to be gentle.

Either way works, just kind of throwing it out there. It's your style. I like the story by the way.
