Content Ideas

Hey all. I'm think we're pretty desparate here for new content. So, i think i'm going to dedicated a few weeks to producing some top quality content for the site. Post any ideas you have here.

I want to write about web programming, including CSS / XHTML / PHP & MySQL especially. Maybe work on a series of web programming tutorials that would be very useful to the beginner / intermediate crowd.

Good idea? Bad idea? Hit me with some specifics if you've got 'em.

Re: Content Ideas

I know a lot of people don't even know what those things are, so some simple definition, and explaining what is useful when might be nice. But I suppose it just depends what crowd you want to cater to. I think it might be a start though, and for someone with experience like you, easy to produce?

if you do anything be sure to advertise the shit out of it. people are always looking for more info on programming because they're such difficult programs, so try to make them as clear and 5 year-old as possible. but be sure to advertise them like it's easy shit. (I even tried Python for a few weeks and blew at that)

if you submit that shit here that means it would be going off the "visual design core" route and into "visual and web design core". you'd have to think about how to incorporate those shits together.

Re: Content Ideas

Not actually content related ... but a Mod forum would be nice. Though it is the nature of conversation to lead into multiple topics, it becomes repetitive when half of the threads on the front page are subject-turned mod discussions, which could easily be formatted into one forum or via pm. The Mod discussions actually turn me away from the topic at hand when I know I am not affiliated with any part of it. Just a minor request. Thanks.

I'll come up with some other ideas later.

I like to think I've been an advocate of improvement before teh last two days started. Hell, I think it's thanks to Dan that this new resurgance even began. To say that only mods are responsible for changes in the site ruins the fact that we're a communiy who've been together for a while, and all have a say in the matter.

There is a mod forum though, it turns out, but it just hasn't been used in 6 months or something.

Re: Content Ideas

I wasn't suggesting that Mods only were noteworthy of the positive change around here. As far as I'm concerned -- regulars and mods alike -- we're all in the same boat, minus editing and deletion powers. And I think creating feedback threads such as this are absolutely necessary to the growth of any site. In my first reply I was simply suggesting Mods use another medium of communication when, say, a how-to question arises. Not doing so may take way from the topic at hand. For example, a group of us regulars are involved in a discussion about video games but then get two-faced with a random "this isn't working, help me" reply by a Mod. It's a careless comment to what is actually being discussed. I think if we regulated ourselves a little less like that we may be able to have a better time here.

Re: Content Ideas

I was light-heartedly but genuinely complimenting him for a kick ass post while not decapitating him and mounting his head on a trophy plaque. You want to relax?

Back to the topic at hand, broz.--Mur-muh-don

I totally have red pubic hair, so why did this crooked fucker steal my color? Shit son. I call dibs on green, for realz.

fuck, I have black pubes...

...BUT BLUE EYES

you get red, i get blue or you could get orange because really, red hair is actually orange.

doc/atom gets whateva the fuck

hai guyz

That offends me a lot actually. I have red pubes, not orange. It is quite amusing, but it's why I refused to be called a ginger, as I have no orange hair on my body. Leg hair and eybrows are golden, hair is red, pubes are shades of red, light but not orange. I'll post pics sometime) . But myr already defiled the color, so I'll remain green for the time being. Doc needs his color though. Black is so... uncivilized. We are above THOSE type of members...

Re: Content Ideas

i see what you're saying, but the first interjection there is just a useful way of responding to the concerns of a member while not turning the thread into an off-topic discussion over what the concern was about.

after that...

bit started it.

P.S. another member told me specifically that they enjoy when mods do things like that, because it's funny. i wouldn't worry about that happening too often from now on though, thanks.

Also, I agree with renzo.

Re: Content Ideas

It's a throwback to how modding was done on GT. Doctor suggested it, myr ran with it and used it first, and I used it to interject some humor into whatever else a mod does, so there's no hard feelings that myr's the only one doing it (If one person does it bad, then it looks wrong; if three people do, hey, it's kewl!), or that what was said was mean.

As in, unintentional good cop/bad cop, where myr happens to be a controlling asshole.

Oh, and everything I have ever said, is said with ironic love. Don't you worry.

the more we use it the more we learn, so there won't be any "this isn't working, help me". we'll just PM Pat if there are problems with it. those posts you read were us having fun with, or abusing, our powers because it's new shit. it's kinda like pushing your car to the limits when you first get it.

and jeez, stop with the jargon already. just type like you talk.

Cov has a point. Video tutorials could be nice. And I would honestly like a SotW, fresh start this shit and I'll swear upon whatever that I'll include a piece as often as I possibly can.

Re: Content Ideas

im back in hawaii with a computer now, so im going to finish up those interviews i did with some very high up peeps in the industry (pat youve seen one) and i also want to / have started a few basic articles regarding things from creativity and idea-gathering (some cool techniques i learned) to charcoal techniques and tricks to a nice materials list of some things that are wicked fun to use but not really heard of outside art schools.

I love a lot of these ideas, im not too keen on the SOTW thing. If you guys really want it, well do it, but ive always felt the same way about sigs: They arent a piece of art, they are meaningless name tags.

forgot to mention, i have a friend cookies who signed up on this site, hes an awesome motion picture and television major and hes brilliant at what he knows best, hes going to be writing some shit for us soon. I talked to him today, i also have some photography majors and graphic design majors who are great artists who have agreed to write some shit. Ill make the calls tomorrow and get them to come introduce themselves and post.

As for mod "abuse" ::

We dont really have "mods" here in a traditional sense, which gives them a lot of freedom. we have people who have proven that they want this site to run smoothly. Theyve done so enough that we let them kind of run with the guideline of common sense. It would be no fun if this was a fucking e-prison camp, If you can edit and delete and all that jazz, you got that ability because you earned it. I trust everyone that pats given these powers to. And if they want to have fun, then fuck it thats what this site is here for. Its a site about a passion that we all share and a common denominator in a gangle of lives that would otherwise never cross. So as far as im concerned, they can edit this post and tell everyone i suck dick so long as they dont erase anything important ive written and so long as they dont do it TOO often.

Basically, the mods have common sense. So do you. Its a moot issue. Dont take anything personally.

Fuck you Bit. and Se Vant. Cock Holsters.
