you made it way harder than it should be. But good job. If you save it as a .tga (targa) with alpha channel selected it wont have a black background and you can just control + click the layer to select the entire image and just copy paste.

you can save it as a .tiff and have alpha channel selected and then just copy n pasete the alpha channel... but yeah.
