Dark Art Guide Dark Art Guide

You've probably seen one or two pieces of dark art, and today we'll learn how to make our own. In this tut im going to show you how to go from a nice, regular picture of someone you know (or a stock photo) to some sort of monster. Theres a lot more to it than what i've written down here, but this is the basics.

This is really general, and its only a guide. You need to be creative, and try a lot of new things to produce a really great piece or art. For demonstration purposes, i've whipped up this quicky.

Lets get started. First, get the image you have chosen to work with. in this case, i choose a simple stock photo from deviantart.com.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/6685433/

i chose that one, because the ambience and feeling and mood in her face will fit perfectly.

First thing we need to do is get rid of a few things

Select your clone tool, and make any brush size you want. I used 23. For the rest, use these settings:

(until the damn image works, hardness is 100%, spacing is 50%)

ok hold down the ALT key and select some part of her face or skin thats clear. Then, go over to one of her eyes, and click (dont hold down and drag, just use clicks) over it until the eye, and the eyebrow, are gone. You should have a nice cyclops now.

Done? Good. Heres the fun part. Make a new layer. Go to www.google.com and go to image search. Type in tree bark, or bark, or tree, and get a good picture of tree bark. Copy that picture, and paste it over the nice spot we've made for it. take your lasso tool, select a circle-ish area around it, and go to select < feather and put in (this will differ each time) something around 50 for a larger selection, and maybe around 25 if its a smaller one. You should have a nice little smooth selection. Right click it, and go to select inverse. press delete. Then click this:

A little drop down menu will come up. Play with those until you get something you like, be creative. Remember you can toggle the opacity to get certain effects to be less aggressive. Now the fun part. New layer time.

Go back to google, and image search, and type in Gash, or wound, or cut, or stitches, whatever. Find a good, gory pic, copy it, and repeat what we just did. Select around the wound though before you feather. Place it where you want, just be creative. Remember, this is more of a guide than anything. Anyway you can look for many things like busted up buildings, rubble, rocks, stones, plants, just BE CREATIVE. After a while you can get more advanced, and edit the eye color, another tut for another day.

Heres what i came up with. I used all of 0 filters to make this!

Images used from google:

One of a rock
Two of some nice tree bark
One of a tree's root.
Three of a cut, a gash, and some nice stitches.

Be creative when you search google, and try different terms. Until the more advanced tut is done, have fun!
