Unique Abstract Brushing Unique Abstract Brushing

Well, my first tut in a looooooong time, I hope everyone enjoys it.
This tut will be on how to do the unique style of abstract brushing I did on my piece called Static Age

Well, here we go.

1. Open your render you're going to be brushing on (I just opened a new 500x500 document with a black background).

2. Take your brush tool (shortcut 'b') and set your brush to a round soft one at about 100px.

3. Now we are going to edit the brush a bit. Press F5 to open up the brush pallette.

4. Use these settings :

For the advanced artist, you should really try your own variation on the settings. When I do this type of brush, I rarely use the same settings twice. Just remember when setting the texture and the such for the brush, the possibilities are endless.

5. Make a new layer on top of your render or whatever you're brushing on. Next, take your brush and just make some random dots, kinda like this.

6.Then take your smudge tool (shortcut 'r') at 50% strength and set it this (or something similar):

7. Now take your smudge tool and try smudge the edges outwards, inward, in a swirl, whatever. Just get it so you like how it looks and it no longer looks like some textured dots.

8. Doesn't have much depth, huh? Well, we're going to fix that. Take your eraser tool (shortcut 'e') at 5% flow and set it up so its similar to your smudge tool. Now just start erasing parts of the middle of the brushing. Looks like crap, right? Well, now take your smudge again and smudge over where you erased up and down, left and right, whatever, just smooth it out.

9. Now transform (ctrl+t) your brush layer. Right-click and choose perspective. Now grab a corner of where its being transformed and pull it until it looks similar to this.

10. Now set your brush layer to 25% opacity. Next, ctrl+cllick your brush layer on the layer pallette.

11. Make a new layer (with the brush outline still selected) and go to Select > Modify > Contact and contract it 10px.

12. Make a new layer and fill the selection with white. Ctrl+e to merge your 2 brush layers, and there ya go.

Hope you enjoyed and learned something from this tutorial! Please post your results here, I'm anxious to see what you guys did with this technique.
